Sex and the City

Sarah Jessica Parker stars as Carrie Bradshaw in "Sex and the City".

Finally, after four years of rumours and waiting, it's here, and it's just as hilarious as you've been hoping.

If there was ever a film the term "chick flick" could be applied to without it sounding derogatory, then this big screen version of Sex and the City is it. This is the perfect film for a girls' night out, it will make you laugh, make you cry, and make you feel very unglamorous.

All that said, the film itself is a predictable affair that starts with a quick flashback, just in case you've been living in a fridge for the last decade, re-introducing us to the ever-fashionable Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker), Samantha (Kim Cattrall), Charlotte (Kristin Davis) and Miranda (Cynthia Nixon).

Picking up on their lives in real time, four years after the end of the television series, the girls are joined by the familiar faces of Big (Chris Noth), Smith (Jason Lewis), Steve (David Eigenberg) and Harry (Evan Handler).

If you love the TV show, then you are going to love this movie

Plenty of time is given to wrapping up these core characters' stories, with the addition of only one new character - Carrie's new assistant Louise (Jennifer Hudson), who struggles to get the tone of her performance right.

There is a short and memorable cameo from Candice Bergen, and it's a shame there aren't more of these types of appearances.

While it's a lot of fun, Sex and The City unfolds just like a series of television episodes strung together, or perhaps even a whole series, which is perfect for die-hard fans of the popular HBO series but a little lacking in adventure.

Fortunately, the fashion is adventurous, and let's be honest, the 300 costume changes are one of the major attractions in this film.

Yes, we're keen to find out what happens next in the love lives of our four favourite New Yorkers, but what they are wearing while it's all happening is just as important. You won't be disappointed, not only will this film give you shoe envy, but be prepared for walk-in-wardrobe envy as well.

Sarah Jessica Parker is once again the glue that holds the show together, but she is close to being upstaged by Kim Cattrall. One can't help but wonder whether her initial resistance to doing this film has resulted in a bigger screen profile, but the result is fabulous as Samantha is even more outrageous, patronising and funny than before.

This is a film best seen over-dressed, and since it's almost two and a half hours long, make sure you leave the boys at home, otherwise you might never hear the end of it.

Cast: Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis, Cynthia Nixon

Angelina Jolie on the cover of Vanity Fair- July 2008

Angelina will appear on the the July 2008 cover issue of Vanity Fair magazine.

ANGELINA JOLIE is one hot, hot mama - as demonstrated here in this sizzling magazine spread.

And BRAD PITT is one lucky fella - because it seems the actress was hell-bent on avoiding a Hollywood romance following her disastrous marriage to BILLY BOB THORNTON.

In fact, she was searching for an aid worker - or a man of similar ilk - to settle down with after concluding that showbiz relationships don't work.

The actress - who is currently pregnant with twins - looks unbelievable in a BARBARELLA-inspired shoot for Vanity fair magazine.

With boobs up to her eyeballs and smokey eyes, Angie says she feels sexier than ever.

And she admits she has to thank partner BRAD PITT for her radiance.

Angie - mum to MADDOX, PAX THIEN, SHILOH and ZAHARA - said: "I’m fortunate. I think some women have a different experience depending on their partner.

"I think that affects it. I happen to be with somebody who finds pregnancy very sexy. So that makes me feel very sexy."

But Angie reveals how she initially didn't want to fall for another actor after divorces from Billy Bob and JONNY LEE MILLER.

She said: “After my last divorce, I said I was absolutely going to marry somebody in another field, an aid worker or something.

"Then I met Brad, everything I wasn’t looking for, but the best man, the best father I could possibly wish for, you know?

She says “I don’t see him as an actor. I see him very much as a dad, as somebody who loves travel and architecture more than being in movies.”

Angelina also revealed that Brad did not start charity campaigning until after he met her, but he always showed an interest in humanitarian causes.

She added: “Brad’s passion for international affairs was actually one of the things that brought us together. Though he wasn’t as publicly active, I found him to be very aware of the world, very curious, very compassionate.

“In his private way, he had been doing a lot. When we met, we realized our common goals were that we both wanted to be involved in the world and see what we could do.

"When it comes to common goals — orphans, orphans’ rights, children — we support each other. It brings us together and makes our relationship work.”

Here’s a preview (to Vanity Fair magazine):

Angelina Jolie on being pregnant with twins:

“I love it. It makes me feel like a woman. It makes me feel that all the things about my body are suddenly there for a reason. It makes you feel round and supple, and to have a little life inside you is amazing. Also, I’m fortunate. I think some women have a different experience depend-ing on their partner. I think that affects it. I happen to be with somebody who finds pregnancy very sexy. So that makes me feel very sexy.”

Angelina Jolie on her international family:

“When I was growing up I wanted to adopt, because I was aware there were kids that didn’t have parents. It’s not a humanitarian thing, because I don’t see it as a sacrifice. It’s a gift. We’re all lucky to have each other. I look at Shiloh—because, obviously, physically, she is the one that looks like Brad and I when we were little—and say, ‘If these were our brothers aAngelina Jolie nakednd sisters, how much would we have known by the time we were six that it took into our 30s and 40s to figure out?’ I suppose I’m giving them the childhood I always wished I had.”

This isn’t the first time that Angelina Jolie has posed to Vanity Fair. Here are the covers and spreads from all three of Angelina Jolie’s appearances, together with a sampling of her trademark edgy insights.

Angelina Jolie on daughter Shiloh’s birth:

“We were in this little hospital in Africa when Shi was born. I don’t think there was anybody else in the hospital. It was just a little cottage, the three of us. It ended up being the greatest thing…. I had a C-section and I found it fascinating. I didn’t find it a sacrifice and I didn’t find it a painful experience. I found it a fascinating miracle of what a body can do.”

Angelina Jolie on nannies: “We don’t ever have anybody spend the night. We may have to adjust that when the next one comes. But we do have ladies that work with us, and they’re also from different cultures and back-grounds. One lady’s a Vietnamese teacher—wonderful. One is of Congolese descent from Bel-gium. Another is from the States and is really creative and does art programs.”

Angelina Jolie on artists as parents: “Artists raise their kids differently,” she said. “We communicate to the point where we probably annoy our children. We have art around the house, we have books, we go to plays, we talk. Our focus is art and painting and dress-up and singing. It’s what we love. So I think you can see how artists in some way raise other artists.”

Tatum O'Neal, in a car's back seat with the window rolled up and her face buried in her hands, is taken from court yesterday after spending the night in jail for drug possession.

OSCAR-winning actress Tatum O'Neal, who was this week arrested for allegedly buying crack cocaine, said she was tipped over the edge by the death of her dog three weeks ago.

O'Neal may face up to a year in jail after being charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance.

It was reported she was caught buying crack cocaine from a homeless street vendor three blocks from her Manhattan home.

Former drug addict O'Neal has reportedly blamed her dog's death for pushing her over the edge.

"Just when I was about to change that and wreck my life, the police came and saved me," she said, The New York Post reports.

"There's no excuse for what I did. I lost my Scottish terrier, Lena, three weeks ago. That seemed to set me off."

A judge released her from custody yesterday on her own recognisance and she was ordered to return on July 28.

At the age of 10, O'Neal became the youngest person to win a competitive Academy Award for her supporting role in Paper Moon, in which she starred along with her father, Ryan O'Neal.

She married tennis star John McEnroe in 1986 and after their divorce in 1992 McEnroe won custody over their three children following a protracted battle.

In her memoir, A Paper Life, O'Neal wrote that her addiction to heroin in 1995 led to her losing custody of her children, the Daily News reported.

O'Neal has said she later sought help and got off drugs.

Bardot fined over racial hatred

A French court has fined former film star Brigitte Bardot 15,000 euros (£12,000) for inciting racial hatred.

She was prosecuted over a letter published on her website that complained Muslims were "destroying our country by imposing their ways".

It is the fifth time Ms Bardot been convicted over her controversial remarks about Islam and its followers. This is her heaviest fine so far.

The French film idol, who is 73, was not in court to hear the ruling.

The fine - equivalent to $23,000 - related to a letter she wrote in December 2006 to the then Interior Minister, Nicolas Sarkozy, which was published on her website, in which she deplored the slaughter of animals for the Muslim festival of Eid al-Adha.

She demanded that the animals be stunned before being killed.

She said she was "tired of being led by the nose by this population that is destroying us, destroying our country by imposing its acts".

In a letter to the court Ms Bardot, who is a prominent animal rights campaigner, insisted she had a right to speak up for animal welfare.

The prosecutor said she was weary of charging Ms Bardot with offences relating to racial hatred and xenophobia.

ALANIS MORISSETTE: FLAVOURS OF ENTANGLEMENT

Alanis’ 2008 offering was made to reflect Ghandi’s belief that, “You must be the change you want to see in the world.”

Flavours Of Entanglement certainly tingles with the drama of such an undertaking, whether emoting angrily on Straightjacket, or with impassioned ballad Not As We.

Morissette followers will feel blessed.
